5 Tips to Up Your Mythgard Game

DJ joins us today to talk about a few things that you could be doing to help you win more games of Mythgard!

Mythgard is a game that is easy to pick up but hard to master. There are so many different things that affect decision making, play patterns, and resource management that it can be easy to make mistakes and Mythgard can be extremely punishing on even the smallest mistake. This also means that developing good play habits can also increase your win percentages a certain amount. In this article I’m going to give you five pointers that can help you turn some losses into wins.

Look at the cards your opponent is burning

When a card is burned it is revealed meaning you can get a little sneak peek of what your opponent is playing. If you see that your opponent burned Temptation then you now know to at least have that card in the back of your mind while making plays later on. If you missed what your opponent burned initially you can check in the top left hand corner to see what has been burned and played in the current game you’re playing.

Pay attention to Paths and Powers

A lot of ways to approve at Mythgard is to simply pay close attention to everything going on in the game. This can feel daunting because there is so much that is going on turn to turn but once you find your rhythm with it, your decision making becomes more informed and more planned. The first thing that I usually do when I start a game is look at what path and power my opponent is using. Always knowing how many souls your opponent has with Journey of Souls allows for multiple turn planning. Double checking which season your opponent is on with Turn of Season can help you take advantage of when they are in winter and cards like Thunder clap and Magus allow you to deal extra damage to your opponents whole board as well as letting you set up trades that otherwise wouldn’t happen. This also applies to Disk of Circadia making sure whether or not the Slayer 1 mode is active. It is extremely punishing to miss a small detail like these while lining up trades for the turn.

Know your role

Assessing the role that you are supposed to play in a game can be difficult but it’s extremely important to your goal of winning the game. Trading too much as an aggro deck can cause you to run out of resources too quickly, while being too aggressive as a control deck can hinder developing your resources and efficiently answering your opponents threats. Though it is important to keep in mind that control decks in Mythgard are more proactive than control decks in other card games so finding the balance between adding to the board but doing so in a reactive way can be tricky.

Have a plan

This is one of the most difficult and most crucial parts of any card game that you will play. Playing in such a way that all of your decisions are connected with the same common goal means that you play your role effectively. The challenging part, however, is that there are times where you need to change plans and being able to identify and act upon when to change your plan can be extremely challenging. The key in my experience is to always ask your self “How does making this play win me the game in the long run.” If your play doesn’t seem to be what will win you the game, consider switching plays such as instead of trading resources, you start racing in damage instead.

Watch as much content as you can

This last one might seem like a no brainer but digesting as much information as you can will help to understand all the afore mentioned points better as well as letting you see different play patterns from different decks that you might not be familiar with. This allows you to have more of an understanding of what your opponent is trying to do as well as getting familiar with popular decks so you can get a head start in learning what cards to play around and prepare for in the game. There are amazing Mythgard Youtubers, Streamers, and podcasters out there that understand the game and are excellent in helping people improve their game. Not to mention sites like Teamrankstar.com where you can find a ton of other articles that address different topics that you might be curious about.

Closing

Mythgard is a hard game. Don’t get discouraged or upset when you make mistakes. Our mistakes are some of the few things in life and games that we can control whether or not it happens again. Recognize when and where you made a mistake and just work your hardest to keep improving. Thanks for reading and I hope to see you on the Mythgard ladder!
